Today is my 32nd birthday.  It has not been a great birthday weekend.  I am very ill.  I can’t remember this last time I was this sick.  It appears to be a strep throat in conjunction with a sinus infection.  I can’t breathe, or swallow or hold my head up due to my aching glands.  I spent all day yesterday in bed and most of today with the exception of a few minutes here and there.

All this time in bed has given me a lot of thinking time this weekend and I have thought, despite this current illness how lucky and blessed I truly am.

Just this year alone we have met some incredible milestones.

As a family of five we travelled for the first time and took on India and Thailand!  What an amazing trip.  My little Princess rang in her first birthday in India and my husband rang in his 33rd birthday in Thailand.

Monkey turned 4 and started school!  He is bused to school, that was a lot of excitement for him and trauma for me.  He learned to write his name and read small words over the course of this year.

My little Teddy turned 3 and started preschool for the first time ever all by himself, without his brother and at a new school.  He has been going 3 days a week and thriving.  I am now confident he will do fine when he starts school (JK) next year.

My little Princess has grown from a baby into a little girl.  She has learned to walk, talk and has potty trained in the 9 short months since the birthday she celebrated in India!  She is bossy and beautiful and still our baby even though I cannot believe we are approaching her 2nd birthday.

So as I sit here and reflect on my wonderful family and feel grateful for everything I have I now think what next?  What do we conquer as a family in the next up coming year?  I am thinking Disney, JK for teddy and preschool for Princess.  Beyond that we will see where life takes us.

What a Week!

What a week.  The week started off ok.  I was taking my final cake decorating class.  It went well I was impressed with what I learned in such a short period of time.

Then it just went downhill from there.

I am making my nephews birthday cake…another crack at the 3D teddy bear.  His party is on Saturday.  So I had planned to bake the cake during naptime yesterday.  Well does Princess not decide to fall asleep on the way home from dance at 10:00 am…throwing a total wrench into my plans!  So I call my lovely grandma who comes to pick up the boys and give me a hand.  Well Teddy decides he only wants to be with Mama.  So off go Monkey and Grandma, get back in the house from doing up Monkey’s seatbelts and guess who wakes up!  Get Princess to the bathroom and the phone rings, it is grandma, her and Monkey have been in a car accident.

My heart was POUNDING.  My worst fear is that my kids will be hurt/injured when I have entrusted them to someone else’ s care.  She assures me they are both fine.  So Teddy, Princess and I go flying out the door to the scene of the accident, literally 2 minutes from our house.  Of course they were fine, Monkey was mr. I am so brave.  The boys wanted to hang around to see grandma’s car get towed.  Then we ended up helping to pick up the rental car, calming grandma down by sitting for lunch, picking up aunt to drive grandma home who even though she was in no state to drive insisted on getting a rental car.  Then had to take Monkey to clinic to get checked, also follow up for Princess and a check on Teddy who has been crying for seemingly no reason for the last 2 days.

Well turns out Monkey was totally fine, Teddy has a UTI and Princess needs an ultrasound.  Managed to get home around 7 pm when I had planned not to leave the house (other than dance class) for the entire day.

Was late baking the nephew’s cake, which I will now be up until likely 3 am decorating tonight.

I don’t remember at the moment what else has happened, but I assure you it has been an insane week in the household of Notes.

Anyway let’s hope things settled down, pizza for dinner tonight, pray for an early bedtime and getting the cake done on time.

So what kind of crazy weeks make you feel like you want to rip out all your hair?

Our Weekend In Numbers

That was princess’ temp at the walk in clincic saturday morning.  Their response…give her tylenol since it had only been 4 hrs since she had advil watch her for an hour, tell us it is a virus and send us home.

That was her temp Saturday night when we walked into emerg with a shaking, vomitting child.  Their response, rush through, see the doc within 20 mins and be told, hmmm looks like a virus, go homw and ride it out.  give her pedialite etc etc so as not to get dehydrated.

That was her temp this morning when we walked into emerg and after waiting for 45 mins without even being triaged was told as long as she was breathing she had to wait her turn.  At which point, perhaps against better judgement I walked out and took her to a walk in clincic.  Where the nurse flipped having never taken a temp so high.  The doc gave her an immediate dose of antibiotics and diagnosed her with a kidney infection.

4 hours

How long my sweet little angel who had been struggling, limp and burning up for days took to start talking, laughing, walking and break the feaver that had plagued her for 5 days.  The walk in doctor said it was unacceptable she had been left untreated and he was able to get a copy of her lab results from the weekend so the previous treating docs had all the same info that he did.

The number of days before my family doc, who supposedly has daily appts for emergencies could see her.

How high my blood pressure felt due to the anger at the docs and stress of being terrified for my vomitting burning up child all weekend.

A happy halloween it unfortunately was not.
